    Currently, Med-Eng has a challenging opportunity for a Senior Project Manager at our Ottawa, Ontario office.

    Responsibilities

    Summary:

     

    The Senior Project Manager leads and manages multi-project portfolios from initiation through delivery.

     

    The Project Portfolio consists of both internally funded product development projects and customer defined/funded custom product and system development projects.

     

    The Senior Project Manager assumes accountability for tracking, monitoring and reporting cost, schedule, technical performance and risk management of multifunctional teams for a number of different projects. Team management responsibility includes matrixed resources across different Functions dedicated to the program, Engineering and Operations.

    Qualifications

    Duties & Responsibilities:

     

    • Support project teams in the preparation of project plans, including clear definition of work scope, schedule, resource requirements, and establishment of cost baselines.
    • May be called upon to lead and mentor Project managers in execution of day to day duties.
    • Acts as the main interface with internal stakeholders and customer representatives in ensuring the project scope and requirements are understood, documented, and managed through the lifecycle of the project.
    • Communicates and coordinates resource and project team needs and priorities with the functional resource managers and in cooperation with other project teams, sharing the same resources.
    • Shares knowledge of best practices and adapts them to the Med-Eng business.
    • Manages the project teams assigned to support the portfolio of projects including helping management in setting goals, defining priorities and work tasks, resolving schedule and resource conflicts and priorities, and managing performance.
    • Interfaces with functional resources and their supervisors to manage resource loading commitments for shared resources. Supports these functional managers in the setting of goals and performance management of shared resources.
    • Monitors and controls project plans all work performed on the program to ensure that all outputs required by the contract/project are complete, within the defined schedule and to report on and plan mitigation plans for any discrepancies.
    • Monitors all project spending, variance analyses, and earned value reporting against approved project plans and baselines.
    • Provides management with concise and accurate reports and appraisals of project status at frequent intervals, and such other special reports and appraisals as deemed necessary by management.
    • Anticipates and evaluates potential risk areas during the planning and throughout the duration of the project, highlight to senior management and propose/pursue mitigation, avoidance, and corrective action plans as necessary.
    • Schedules and chairs project planning and status and issue management meetings.
    • Serves as the direct point of contact between Customers and the company on all matters pertaining to the project.
    • This position may involve infrequent travel.

     

    Qualifications: 

     

    • A minimum of 7 years’ experience working in Project Management and a minimum of 5 years as a Project Manager directly overseeing projects or portfolios of $1M or greater
    • A technical university degree or suitable combination of academic qualifications and relevant experience and skills.
    • PMP Designation is required.
    • A minimum of 10 to 15 years’ experience working in technical engineering and product development environment, preferably in defense and security technologies.
    • Eligible for a Security Clearance and Controlled Goods Clearance.
    • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
    • Experience working with Microsoft products.
    • Ability to work independently, often under pressure and against deadlines.
    • Strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is essential.
    • Ability and willingness to escalate issues through the chain of command.
