Overview

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the manufacturing process documentation for the Manufacturing facility. This position will liaise with the “Concurrent Development Teams (CDT)” to coordinate activities between the development team and the production group, ensuring all documentation expectations are met prior to Alpha/Beta trials and production launch efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize project management skills to organize and schedule the activities required to complete Alpha/Beta builds relating to New Product Introductions (NPI);
  • Responsible for operator certification training for NPI activities;
  • Assists in establishing standard labor times for individual operations and overall product/process cycle time;
  • Recommends alternate manufacturing processes yielding potential cost reductions, quality enhancements, and ease of manufacture;
  • Consults with OEM’s, suppliers, and vendors to obtain pertinent technical information and specifications on materials, processes, and equipment;
  • Oversees the implementation and validation of new equipment used for production;
  • Creates and audits “Bills of Materials” within the ERP system. Performs “Root Cause Analysis’ and implements “Corrective Actions’ on labor variances identified in closed work orders.
  • Communicates with counterparts on a regular basis to maintain a liaison between the various facilities;
  • Utilizes Process Analysis tools to devise optimal production floor layout and production flows;
  • Designs and implements cell work centers as required to meet production forecast demands;
  • Considerations to tact time, cycle time, throughput and WIP are essential;
  • Spearheads Continuous Improvement efforts for process improvements, product quality enhancements and overall cycle time reduction;
  • Investigates, implements and validates alternate manufacturing methods/techniques, equipment and systems for manufacturing improvements and efficiencies;
  • Creates and presents return on investment presentations during the approval process for budgeting and cost savings initiatives;
  • Consults with material/equipment suppliers to gather technical specifications and other relevant data;
  • Performs benchmarking activities to obtain process knowledge and “best practices” information;
  • Analyses production variance reports generated from the ERP system to provide insight into the variance root causes and devise corrective action plans;
  • Travel to other facilities to participate in global best practices review.
  • Communicates with counterparts at other Plants on a regular basis to ensure to ensure that process standardization is adopted across facilities.                  
  • Creates Engineering masters, (BOM’s) for new products introduced into the manufacturing facility;
  • Working with a concurrent implementation team assists in organization and actions for new builds and custom orders;
  • Working with the Supervisors to ensure operator certification training has been delivered;
  • Participates in pilot production builds for time trials and process validation and ERP verification.
  • Recommends Quality System improvements and participates in QMP streamlining and overall system enhancements;
  • Provides assistance to Production, QA and R&D departments where required;
  • Documents projects and findings in a clear and accurate manner. Submits reports to the Plant Manager on a regular basis;
  • Key stakeholder in the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reduction program for the Manufacturing facility.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Design / Mechanical Engineering/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering and relevant experience;
  • 5 years’ experience working in an Engineering position;
  • Soft Goods manufacturing environment background with experience in cutting room equipment, and marker creation software would be considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with computer-aided process modeling, Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • Ability to interpret drawings and production documents;
  • Ability to independently manage, organize and complete work activities in order to meet or exceed established deadlines and priorities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written English;
  • Ability to describe or explain information, concepts, and relay instructions to others;
  • Competence in writing skills for the purpose of preparing clear and concise written reports;
  • Will be required to travel to other Manufacturing sites in the U.S.;
  • Must have valid driver’s license and valid passport;

  • Ability to communicate/interact effectively, cooperatively, tactfully with internal and external customers.
